How do I access a Standard?

You need to access a Standard such as Australian standards (AS or AS/NZS) or International standards (ISO).

Answer

The Accuris Engineering Workbench database includes selected Australian and ISO standards relevant to teaching and learning at Wodonga TAFE, including those referenced in the National Construction Code of Australia (NCC).

Teachers are able to request standards that are not currently part of our current subscription if it is relevant to teaching and learning.  Requests from students will be referred to their teacher.

For more information and to access Accuris, see the link below to the Library homepage: Find Standards.

Although you can login to Accuris Engineering Workbench (with your TAFE credentials) and read standards online Wodonga TAFE only has access for one user at a time. For this reason we recommend downloading a standard and reading it offline or printing a copy for your personal use. Log out of the Accuris platform as soon as you can to free up the license for someone else.

Setting up access to Standards

There is Digital Rights Management (DRM) on the files you download which means they will expire after 30 days and can only be opened on the machine you downloaded it to. The DRM is managed by software called FileOpen which is a plugin for Adobe Reader - You will have to have both of these installed before you can open and read a standard that you have downloaded.

First time users will need to complete the following steps BEFORE accessing the Accuris database.

  1. Install Adobe Acrobat Reader (you may already have this installed)
  2. Install FileOpen plugin (this has been installed on the computers in the Library)

Your web browser will have its own built in pdf reader which will not work with the DRM protected documents. You will need to change the settings in your browser to always download PDF files:

  • In Google Chrome type chrome://settings/content/pdfDocuments into the address bar (or go to Settings | Privacy and security | Site Settings | Content | PDF Documents) and change 'Default Behavior' to 'Download PDFs'.
  • In Microsoft Edge type edge://settings/content/pdfDocuments into the address bar (or go to Settings | Cookies and site permissions | All permissions | PDF documents) and change 'Always download PDF files' to 'On'

One you have installed Adobe Reader, FileOpen and changed your Browser PDF settings access Accuris Engineering Workbench. When you have found and opened a standard in the online reader there is a button to 'Get Secure PDF'. This will download the file which you can then open in Adobe Reader and read or print. After downloading the file please close the document in the Accuris online reader and log out of Accuris Engineering Workbench - you will still be able to read the downloaded version after you log out.

Troubleshooting

I get an error message when I try to open a downloaded standard.

If you have attempted to open the secure PDF in a browser (ie. Chrome, Edge, Safari, etc.) then you will see an error message "Failed to load PDF document" or "We can't open this file".  Documents downloaded from Accuris must be opened in the Adobe Acrobat Reader app.

If you are opening the file in Adobe Acrobat Reader, you must also have the FileOpen plugin installed before you can view secure PDFs.

I have found the standard I need, but the database says "All available licenses are currently in use. Try accessing this document later".

Viewing documents online from Accuris is restricted to a single concurrent user.  If you see this message it means someone else is currently viewing a standard online.  Try again later.

I have downloaded a standard previously, but when I go to open it with Adobe Acrobat Reader it says it is unable to open the file.

If you are attempting to open the file in Adobe Acrobat Reader and you get a message "Document security error: Potential copyright violation; access from an unauthorised computer." you will need to download it again on the device you are currently using.

If you have tried to move the file from the location you first downloaded it to then it will probably not open.  Access the database and download the file again.

We recommend you print a copy of standards you need to use regularly, for your personal use.

“Invalid parameters. Please re-download this document” error

If you are trying to open a document that you downloaded from Techstreet before we migrated to Accuris on Feb 28th 2025 then you will need to log into Accuris Engineering Workbench and download the file from there to access it.

I downloaded a standard to a USB drive but now I can't open the file.

The secure PDFs are associated with the device you download them to, so you will not be able to take a standard downloaded on a USB and use it on another computer. Always download to the hard drive of the computer you are using (ie. Downloads folder or C:\ drive folders).

Why can't I print multiple copies at a time?

The standards are secure PDFs which have Digital Rights Management (DRM) controls on them which govern how they may be used.  One of these is to limit your ability to print to a small number of copies at any one time. This limit is set by the original publishers of the documents.
