Why can't I access an eBook?

Answer

There are a number of things you can check before contacting the Library if you are having trouble accessing an eBook.  The following are the most common issues.

Troubleshooting:

Is your login working?

You will be asked to login with your Wodonga TAFE network username and password.  Your username will be your TAFE email address (eg. StudentIDno@wodongatafe.edu.au or 10012345@wodongatafe.edu.au).  If you have forgotten these details you can use the How do I change my password? link below to reset it.

Do you see a La Trobe University logo?

If you can see a La Trobe University logo instead of a Wodonga TAFE logo, you may be attempting to open an eBook linked from the Library catalogue (which we share with La Trobe University).  Unfortunately, due to licensing restrictions Wodonga TAFE students cannot access e-resources which are licensed by La Trobe University.

You can try searching for the same resource(s) from the eBook collection licensed by Wodonga TAFE.  Find the Search box on the Wodonga TAFE Library homepage linked below and search eBooks.  Or the Library may hold a print copy in the physical collection.  Search for Books/DVDs in the Library.

Is the eBook already in use / maximum number of users reached?

Most eBooks are only licensed for a single user to use the eBook at one time. However, titles in high demand may have multiple licenses or even unlimited licenses available.  If the eBook is already in use, you may see a message letting you know that there are no licenses free.  If this is the case, try again later.

Are you using a broken link from Moodle or a website?

If you are using a link from within your Moodle course or from a website, it is possible the link is not working correctly.  Try searching for the book's title from the Search box on the Wodonga TAFE Library homepage.   You can report broken links to the Library by emailing library@wodongatafe.edu.au or use the Submit a Question form on this page.

When clicking on the PDF or ePub link for an eBook, nothing happens (the eBook won't open)

Try refreshing or reloading the page, then click on the PDF/ePub link again.

If you are using Chrome, the reload button is the circular arrow beside the Home button.

If you are using Edge, the refresh button is the circular arrow beside the browser address bar (or press CTRL + R)
